RWE and Masdar Collaborate to Develop Offshore Wind Farms

In an exciting development, Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company (Masdar) and RWE have joined forces to work on the development of the Dogger Bank South (DBS) Offshore Wind Farms, as reported by Emirates News Agency (WAM). The joint projects, located in shallow waters on the Dogger Bank off the northeast coast of England, are set to provide electricity for up to three million typical UK homes.
The Development Consent Order (DCO) application for the offshore wind farms has been accepted into the UK Planning Inspectorate examination phase. The projects will feature up to 200 turbines with a combined estimated capacity of 3 gigawatts. RWE and Masdar are expected to invest significantly during development and construction, delivering an economic contribution to the UK of around EUR 1 billion, including EUR 400 million in the Humber region.
Sven Utermöhlen, CEO of RWE Offshore Wind, expressed enthusiasm for the partnership, emphasizing the commitment to driving the UK's renewable energy agenda and providing economic benefits to the region. Similarly, Husain Al Meer, Director of Global Offshore Wind at Masdar, highlighted the significance of advancing offshore wind capacity in the UK, a key strategic market for the company.
RWE will take the lead in development, construction, and operation with a 51% share, while Masdar will own the remaining 49% stake in the joint projects. The collaboration marks a significant step towards expanding renewable energy initiatives in the UK market.
